Lifetime Software Deals: Are They Legit?

"Lifetime" can mean three different things in software. Two are legitimate. One is a trap.

What "lifetime" actually means

  1. Lifetime of the product version β€” you own version 5 forever, but version 6 costs extra. Legitimate.
  2. Lifetime of the publisher β€” you keep using as long as the company exists. Legitimate but risky.
  3. Lifetime until they decide otherwise β€” vague terms hide a kill-switch. Avoid.

Real lifetime deals worth considering

  • AppSumo / lifetime promos for SaaS that started as one-time-purchase tools (Sketch, Affinity, Figma's pre-acquisition pricing)
  • Lifetime VPN plans from established providers (KeepSolid VPN Unlimited has honored its lifetime deals for 7+ years)
  • Lifetime cloud storage (pCloud, Internxt) β€” pay once, store forever within plan size

Red flags

  • "Lifetime" without a clear definition in the TOS
  • Vendor with under 2 years in business
  • One-person operation with no support channel beyond email
  • Reviews flagging password resets after 6 months
  • Forum threads about deals "expiring"

How to evaluate before buying

  1. Read the lifetime TOS line specifically (Ctrl+F "lifetime")
  2. Check the vendor's age and reviews on Trustpilot
  3. Find at least one user who's had the lifetime deal for 3+ years
  4. Pay with crypto if possible (irreversible payment is a feature when refund risk is low)

Bottom line

Lifetime deals from established publishers are a great way to dodge subscription fatigue. Lifetime deals from unknown vendors are a coin flip. Browse vetted lifetime software deals on SoftwareKeys.shop.
