NordVPN Review (2026): Is It Still the Best VPN?

NordVPN is the default recommendation for most VPN buyers β€” for good reason. Six months of daily use across Tokyo, San Francisco, Berlin, and Bangkok confirms the reputation: fast, reliable, and unobtrusive. Here is what works and what falls short.

Speed and reliability

On a 1 Gbps fiber connection, NordVPN holds 700-850 Mbps on the fastest servers (Lightway protocol). Latency to nearest-server is +5-10ms. Connection drops are rare; auto-reconnect just works.

Streaming unblocking

Netflix US, BBC iPlayer, cheap DAZN, Hotstar β€” all unblocked from corresponding country servers. Slightly slower to recover when a streaming service refreshes their VPN-detection lists, but always back within hours.

Privacy and audits

Panama jurisdiction. Independent no-logs audit by PwC in 2024, repeated in 2025. RAM-only servers. Third-party security reviews for the apps. As privacy-credible as consumer VPN gets short of Mullvad.

Pricing and the discount route

NordVPN retail is $12.99/mo or ~$3.39/mo on the 2-year plan. Discount marketplaces consistently knock another 30-50% off the multi-year plans, payable in crypto. The 2-year-via-discount route is unbeatable on per-month price.

Wrapping up

For 90%+ of buyers, NordVPN is still the right answer in 2026. Mullvad if anonymity is the only goal. cheap ExpressVPN if you need the absolute simplest UI. Otherwise, Nord wins.
