Spotify Premium vs Apple Music: 2026 Verdict

I have run both subscriptions in parallel for 12 months across iPhone, Mac, Android, and Sonos. The two services have converged on price ($10.99/mo individual) but diverged sharply on audio quality, catalog edges, and ecosystem fit.

Audio quality

Apple Music wins decisively: lossless 16/44.1 standard, hi-res up to 24/192 included, Spatial Audio for compatible content. Spotify caps at 320 kbps Ogg Vorbis (HiFi was promised in 2021 and has never shipped).

Catalog

Both have 100M+ tracks. Apple Music wins on classical music metadata and exclusive artist drops. Spotify wins on podcasts (300M+ episodes), playlists, and indie/long-tail discovery.

Recommendations

Spotify's Discover Weekly remains the standard for algorithmic discovery. Apple Music has caught up on station-style listening but still lags on personalization edges.

Ecosystem

Apple Music shines on iPhone/Mac/HomePod via deep system integration. Spotify wins everywhere else β€” better Android app, broader smart-speaker support, near-universal car integration.

Wrapping up

Apple Music for audio-quality purists in the Apple ecosystem. Spotify for everyone else. Get either at a streaming discount for crypto checkout.
